Finding Vision

This episode talks about the effects of war, including suicide, listener discretion advised.

In this episode, we delve into the awe-inspiring journey of artist Jim Stevens, whose life motto “A man with a vision is never truly blind” resonates deeply with his remarkable story. A veteran who lost his sight due to a piece of shrapnel lodged in his brain from the Vietnam War, Jim’s resilience and creativity shine through as he redefines his perception of the world through art.

Jim’s artistry is an embodiment of his unique perspective. He creates abstract realism portraits by harnessing the pin-dot line of vision remaining in each eye. His monofilament and abstract linear paintings seem to float in empty space, inviting viewers into a dance of shifting perspectives. This dynamic interaction between art and observer challenges our understanding of space and interpretation.

Our hosts discuss the upcoming “Dinner with Artists” event, where Jim Stevens takes center stage. This event was an evening of inspiration, insight, and connection. Through Jim’s captivating art, guests and listeners witness the power of determination and creativity in overcoming adversity.

We also encourage you to get involved with the art program at the VFW Post 1 where Jim and others have created something truly special. The Veteran Arts Council hold open calls for artists every 2ND SATURDAY of the month at 2:30 pm. You do not have to be a vet to participate, part of their mission is to integrate and create opportunities for vets to meet civilians.

The dinner at our live event was brought to us by Rattle Battle Deli Catering, who also have a wonderful mission to help vets get back on their feet through their 501(c)3 Culinary Art Boot Camp which provides training in the culinary arts to provide jobs for our vets.
